Earned Income Tax Credit Assistance
This benefit is available for the following funds:
- Greater NY Benefit Fund
- Home Care Benefit Fund
- Home Health Aide Benefit Fund
- National Benefit Fund

If you fall within the income guidelines and qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), you can have your tax return prepared for free by a certified tax professional at one of your Benefit Fund's Tax Preparation Events.
Income Eligibility Levels for the Earned Income Tax Credit
- $43,279 ($48,279 married filing jointly) with three (3) or more dependent children
- $40,295 ($45,295 married filing jointly) with two (2) dependent children
- $35,463 ($40,463 married filing jointly) with one (1) dependent child
- $13,440 ($18,440 married filing jointly) with no dependent children

Please Note: We cannot do your taxes if:
- You are filing in any state other than New York State. No multi-state filings and no filings for CT, NJ or anywhere else.
- You have income from the Sale of Stocks, Bonds or other Assets (Form 1099-B)
- You have a Forgiveness of Debt (Form 1099-C)
- You have a mortgage (own home, condo or co-op)
- You want to itemize deductions MORE than the following (Schedule A): $5,750 for single filers, $8,350 for single filers with dependents, $11,400 for married filers with or without dependents
- You have Self Employment Income (reported on Form 1099-MISC or from your own business) and you incurred deductible expenses to earn your income. See Receptionist if the income is from Day Care/Babysitting or as a Taxi driver.
What You Need to Bring
Avoid being turned away for not having all the documents you need to get your taxes prepared. See the list below to make sure you have everything and everyone on hand when you’re ready to go.
- Your 1199SEIU Health Benefit ID.
- Your spouse. If you are filing a joint return, both you and your spouse must be present.
- Government-issued photo ID for you and your spouse (if filing a joint return)
- Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for you and anyone on your tax return, or a letter from the Social Security Administration (originals or copies). Copies of a past year’s tax return are not accepted as proof of Social Security Number (SSN).
- W-2s for all 2008 jobs. If you are self-employed (getting paid in cash or personal checks), you must know your total income for 2008.
- Form 1099-G, if you received unemployment insurance in 2008
- Form 1099-INT, if you received interest from a bank account in 2008
- Form 1098-T, if you paid tuition for post-high school education
- Form 1098-E, if you paid student loan interest for post-high school education
- Form 1099-D, if you received dividends
- To claim child care expenses, bring:
o 2009 total paid
o child care agency’s ID
o -or- name and SSN of child care provider
- Sample check or bank statement with routing and account numbers, if you want to direct deposit your refund
- Amounts of any other income from your records (Jury duty fees, cash earnings, etc.)
DON’T FORGET TO BRING YOUR SPOUSE IF YOU ARE FILING JOINTLY! YOU CAN’T FILE WITHOUT HIM OR HER!
