1199SEIU Family of Funds. Caring for Those who Care for Others.

Greater New York

This benefit is available for the following funds:

  • Greater NY Benefit Fund

(To find out which funds you belong to, use the benefit finder at right.)

There's no cost to you for your prescriptions, and only a $3 co-pay for brand name prescriptions, when you follow the Benefit Fund's prescription program:

  • Make sure your doctor prescribes generic drugs and brand name drugs that are on the 1199SEIU Preferred Drug List (PDL). You can share this list with your doctor and work together to find the best covered option for you.
  • If your doctor prescribes a drug in a category covered by the Benefit Fund, but you don't see it on the Preferred Drug List, just ask your doctor to prescribe any generic medication or a brand-name if there are no generics available. Remember, some drugs like cosmetics are not covered. Check your Summary Plan Description for details.
  • Long-term medications must be filled through The 90-Day Rx Solution, the Benefit Fund's maintenance drug access program. Just ask your doctor to write your prescription for a three-month supply with three refills (a year's supply in total). Then fill it through Medco by Mail, or order and pick up your prescription at a Rite Aid or Pathmark Pharmacy in New York or New Jersey. Click here for a Medco by Mail order form.
  • Some medications require prior authorization. If your doctor thinks you need a medication that is not on the Preferred Drug List, call the Fund at (646) 473-9200.

Think Generics First!

Always ask your doctor to prescribe generic drugs from the Fund's PDL where possible. The generic drugs listed on the Fund's PDL have the same effectiveness as the name brands, but they cost much less.

Remember, if your doctor prescribes a brand-name even though a generic is available, or a non-covered medication, you will have out-of-pocket costs.
