6:00 pm — Pharmacy Operations and Clinical Strategies for Optimal and Safe Inpatient Rapid Response
Presenter:
Michael Liu, Pharm.D., MBA, BCCCP, BCNSP, BCPS
Descriptive Summary:
This presentation will focus on operational and clinical strategies for optimal and safe inpatient rapid response, including the use of technology and pharmacy informatics to mitigate medication errors.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Discuss assessing workers’ knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics related to educating them about medication error mitigation strategies;
- Demonstrate the importance of modeling and coaching, particularly for determining on-the-job success for new employees;
- Illustrate the strengths and limitations of automated dispensing cabinets for access to rapid response medications;
- Describe the strengths and limitations of radio frequency identification tags for the inventory of rapid response medications;
- Explain how clinical decision support may help determine the etiology of acid-base disorders; and
- Discuss the utility of sodium bicarbonate in medical emergencies.
8:00 pm — Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Safety Pearls

Descriptive Summary:
This presentation will discuss nutrition support safety pearls related to the administration of medications in patients with eating disorders.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe which medications should not be administered via the jejunal routes;
- Demonstrate the different types of enteral feeding formulas by enteric function; and
- Assess strategies for avoiding medication errors during feeding tube insertions.

An application has been submitted to the California Board of Registered Nursing for three (3) continuing education credits.
Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians:
The New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists (NYSCHP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This course is approved for 0.3 CEUs (3 contact hours).

Training and Employment Fund Members
Members must have been a part-time or full-time employee for at least one year, work at least three-fifths of a regular workweek, and work for an employer who contributes to the 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund or the 1199SEIU Greater New York Education Fund.
City of New York Education, Child and Eldercare Fund Members
Pharmacists, Dietitians, Clinical Laboratory Practitioners and LPNs must have worked with NYC Health + Hospitals or a mayoral agency for at least one year.
Registered Nurse Training and Job Security Fund members
Members must have been a part-time or full-time employee for at least one year and work for an employer who contributes to the 1199SEIU/Hospital League Health Care Industry Registered Nurse Training and Job Security Fund.
