For children nine to 15 years of age
The Anne Shore Camp Program allows eligible children between the ages of 9 and 15 to attend three- to four-week summer sleep-away camps located across the Northeast. The 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation administers the Anne Shore Camp Program, providing a variety of camp options to enable parents to select the best summer experience for their child. Diverse camp offerings include camps that emphasize academics, technology, athletics, as well as traditional camp experiences. All camps that participate in the Anne Shore Camp Program are independently owned and operated, and are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Camps for teenagers and children with disabilities or special needs are also available.
The Child Care Corporation staff of the Anne Shore Sleep-Away Program does everything it can to ensure that the camp providers offered to 1199SEIU members are among the best camps available. For more details about the Anne Shore benefit, please click here.
The camp process can be a transition for both parents and children. While it is a transition, the camp benefit affords children the opportunity to learn self-reliance and enhance their physical, intellectual and social skills. To aid in the transition, the Program provides a variety of resources for parents. As administrators of the Program, the Child Care Corporation staff interviews potential campers and their parents at a mandatory orientation. The orientation is designed to provide parents with an overview of the various types of camps offered. Additionally, the orientation confronts the challenges children and parents face, such as homesickness. To find out more about techniques for managing homesickness, click here.
In addition to our informational resources, experience has shown us that talking to someone who has been through the experience of sending their child to sleep-away camp is beneficial as well as comforting. Through our “Ask A Mom” link, members can email Corporation staff and ask a fellow parent, who has used this benefit, any questions they may have about the camp experience.
