Lee H. Perlman, executive vice president of administration and chief financial officer of the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) and president of GNYHA Ventures, Inc., chaired the gala. This year’s theme was “Planting the Dream: The Flowers of Tomorrow Are the Seeds of Today,” and the evening included honorary gala chairs George Gresham, president of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East; Bruce McIver, president of the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York; and Vivian Fox, president of the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation and executive director of the Child Care Funds.

Since 2006, the Care for Kids Gala has raised money to support Child Care Corporation programs that benefit families in the communities and institutions they serve. Funds raised from this year’s event will enable the Child Care Corporation to increase the number of children who are educated at the 1199SEIU Future of America Learning Center (FALC). FALC has been deemed a “showcase” and “learning partner” site by the New York City Department of Education for its early-childhood education curriculum, which is being used to develop and train other early-childhood learning centers across the city.

The Care for Kids Gala honors individuals and organizations whose work demonstrates a commitment to children and families. This year’s honorees were Dawna Michelle Fields, national program director of the Colgate-Palmolive Company; Keith Mestrich, president and chief executive officer of Amalgamated Bank; Dr. Rosa M. Gil, president and chief executive officer of Comunilife Inc.; and Sheena Wright, president and chief executive officer of United Way of New York City.
