In April, the latest group of 1199SEIU members’ children spent their school vacation taking part in the 1199SEIU Employer Child Care Fund’s Holiday Sleep-Away Program. The 8- to 17-year-olds joined thousands of others who have benefited from the five-day sleep-away camp experience, which coincides each year with New York City’s public school break and is geared to help both the students and their working parents.

In total, 78 children between the ages of 8 and 13 attended The Fresh Air Fund’s Camp Mariah in Fishkill, NY, while 53 children ages 14 to 17 attended The French Woods Sports and Arts Center in Hancock, NY. Both camps offered a host of activities, including music and art classes, indoor and outdoor sports and hiking. The French Woods Sports and Arts Center also offered classes in mobile app development and website design — highlighting the Child Care Fund’s continued efforts to increase science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) enrichment options for members’ children.
