If you have diabetes and can’t seem to get it under control, your Benefit Fund can help. The Type 2 Diabetes Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program joins members who are successfully managing their diabetes with those who are having difficulty. This free, voluntary program won’t replace your doctor’s care—it’s designed to give you additional support. If you want the support, you’ll be assigned a trained 1199SEIU mentor who will work with you to set goals to improve your health.
You will receive:
- One-on-one phone coaching when convenient for you
- Reminders and goal check-ins via text messages
- Video-based educational materials and resources via smartphone
- Personalized, culturally tailored dietary feedback from a nutritionist
Of course, if you are successfully managing your diabetes, your Fund may invite you to be a peer mentor! If would like to join, or find out more about the program, please call the 1199SEIU Peer Mentoring Program at (646) 893-1348.
The Type 2 Diabetes Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program is offered in partnership with InquisitHealth. This program is not intended to provide medical advice. Your interactions in the program may be tracked and recorded for continued quality improvement, ongoing training and safety purposes.

Learn How to Prevent Diabetes & Hypertension During Your Break
Our Outreach Coordinators have kicked off a new health education series—developed by our certified Health Educator and overseen by our Chief Medical Officer—and will be visiting 1199SEIU worksites to talk about diabetes and hypertension, two conditions that, unfortunately, affect many of our members. We are looking forward to seeing you, and will have some giveaways to help you stay well! Check our Wellness events for news about upcoming dates and locations.
