|Changes to Health Benefits for Greater New York Benefit Fund Members|
On July 21, the 1199SEIU Greater New York Benefit Fund Trustees approved a resolution implementing the collective bargaining agreement reached by the Union and the majority of Greater New York employers that changes members' health benefit plan through September 30, 2017. Under the new agreement, all co-pays for prescription drugs were eliminated beginning September 1, 2015. In addition, as of January 1, 2016, spousal healthcare coverage will be available to all eligible Greater New York members for a weekly $25 premium. Because the new amount is a reduction in premium, employers will not receive new payroll deduction authorization forms. Instead, payroll deductions should be adjusted to ensure that the change takes effect for the payroll cycle that includes the January 1, 2016, change date. The Fund is currently communicating these changes to all eligible Greater New York members, and employers will receive more information on the changes later this year.
|College Prep Classes Help Members Win Writing Contest|
Two Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who enrolled in the College Preparation program offered by the 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds' Greater New York (GNY) Education Fund were recently honored for their creative writing skills at an annual conference of the New Jersey Association for Lifelong Learning (NJALL). Dianne George and Nevonne Tyndall, who work at the Morris Hills Center in Morristown, took home the top awards in NJALL's 2015 Adult Learner Writing Contest for fictional pieces they wrote during a spring college prep course at the GNY Education Fund's learning center in South Orange. Dianne George received the first-place prize of $100, and Nevonne Tyndall received the second-place prize of $50. Both also received certificates commemorating their achievements. The college prep classes offer eligible members instruction in reading, writing, basic math and test-taking skills to help prepare them for college placement exams. For more information on college prep classes, or any other programs through the Training and Employment Funds, please email Training@1199Funds.org or call (212) 284-9210.
Registration for 2016 Child Care Funds Programs Is Under Way
The 1199SEIU Child Care Funds provide benefits that help our members manage all of their child care needs. Eligible members can now register online for 2016 Child Care Funds (CCF) programs, which include offerings for day and after-school care, sleep-away and summer camps, academic prep courses, cultural arts programs and more.
The CCF made registration materials available in late August. Members who would like to register online can visit www.1199SEIUFunds.org/ccf now through October 31 and click on the "My Account" link. Members' personal information accounts give them access to all registration materials, making the process more cost-efficient and user-friendly. Once registered online, enrollees must submit their required documents within two weeks via mail or fax, or scan the documents and submit them to CCF electronically.
For members who prefer to enroll in person, or who have questions about other CCF initiatives, the official Registration Kickoff takes place at Union Headquarters in Manhattan on Saturday, September 12; the Hicksville Office Kickoff follows on Saturday, September 19. CCF offices will also offer extended hours on weekdays and be open every Saturday through the October 31 deadline to assist members who work second- and third-shift schedules. Members registering in person must bring their 1199SEIU Health Benefits ID card, copies of their two most recent pay stubs, copies of their children's Social Security cards, a completed and signed W-4 Form and their 2016 Child Care Funds application.
