New Contribution Rates Take Effect
October 1

On October 1, 2015, new required contribution rates take effect for all 1199SEIU/League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York employers participating in the National Benefit Fund. The new rates have been calculated by the Funds' actuaries and reflect the new flat rate methodology for computing monthly Benefit Fund contributions, as called for in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Based on the success and the ease of administration, the League and the Union agreed to extend use of the flat rate methodology to other 1199SEIU Funds, including the Child Care, Job Security and Training and Upgrading Funds. Payroll reports are a critical component for determining contribution payments and benefits eligibility, and employers should submit them to the Fund through the 1199SEIU Employer Portal at https://Employers.My1199Benefits.org by the 7th day following the end of the payroll month. At the end of the contract year, payments will be reconciled with payroll, and any difference will be incorporated into the following year's projected payment schedule.

For more information on the new contribution rates, please email EmployerServices@1199Funds.org or call the Fund's Employer Services Hotline at (646) 473-6413.

1199SEIU Labor Management Project Launches Diabetes Prevention Program

The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds' Labor Management Project (LMP) recently launched a Diabetes Prevention Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital. 1199SEIU members and other staff who enroll in this evidence-based program will receive support from a trained lifestyle coach. Participants will take a 16-week class, followed by monthly support sessions over the course of one year.

With guidance from Mount Sinai Beth Israel's Labor-Management Committee and a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-approved provider of Lifestyle Coach training, staff members will be trained to deliver a curriculum from the National Diabetes Prevention Program, which has proved successful in lowering the risk for Type 2 diabetes. Coaches will help staff manage their pre-diabetes by teaching them strategies to develop healthier eating habits and be more physically active. The goal of the program is for all participants to lose 5 to 7 percent of their body weight and work their way up to exercising 150 minutes per week.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is part of the LMP's Workplace and Community Health Program, which supports the development of innovative initiatives that promote healthy worksites and communities for 1199SEIU members and their families. For more information about the Diabetes Prevention Program, please contact Marcia Mayfield at (212) 284-9279 or Marcia.Mayfield@LaborManagementProject.org.

Eligible members can now register online for 2016 Child Care Funds (CCF) programs, which include offerings for day and after-school care, sleep-away and summer camps, academic prep courses, cultural arts programs and more.

The CCF made registration materials available in late August. Members who would like to register online can visit www.1199SEIUFunds.org/ccf now through October 31 and click on the "My Account" link.
