The 1199SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds' Boards of Trustees will hold their Joint Annual Meeting from Wednesday, June 21, through Friday, June 23, at the Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, New Jersey. This year's keynote speaker will be Kirk Adams, executive director of the Healthcare Education Project, a healthcare advocacy organization jointly funded by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York. Adams will discuss Washington politics and its impact on the healthcare industry in New York. For more information, please contact Daphne Lewis at (646) 473-8407 or Daphne.Lewis@1199Funds.org.

1199SEIU Members to Complete Care Management Training Program in July
In response to continuing reforms and change in the healthcare delivery system, the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund (TUF), in collaboration with Alfred University, SUNY Downstate and the Center for Integrated Teacher Education, developed the only Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Care Management recognized by the New York State Department of Education. The weekend program consists of 12 graduate credits, and courses include "Introduction to Human Development," "Foundations of Mental Health Counseling," "Principles of Counseling" and "Healthcare Delivery Systems and Aging Adults." The program's aim is to provide current healthcare workers who have a bachelor's degree with the knowledge and skills required to manage patients with multiple care needs, including behavioral health issues. In February, TUF enrolled its first two cohorts of students, one in the Bronx and one in Brooklyn, and the 36 participants are expected to complete the program next month. A third group will begin classes in January 2018. For more information, contact Lewis Payton at (212) 284-9213 or at Lewis.Payton@1199Funds.org.

Summer Sleep-away Camp Program Benefits Children and Their Parents
This summer, over 900 children of 1199SEIU members will take part in the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation's Anne Shore Camp Program. Open to eligible children ages 9 to 15, the program offers boys and girls the opportunity to attend one of 19 summer sleep-away camps at locations from West Virginia to Vermont. Three new camps were added this year: Kutsher's Sports Academy in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, which offers professional sports instruction in a camp environment; Camp Louemma in Sussex, New Jersey, and Timber Ridge Camp in High View, West Virginia. All of the camps are certified by the American Camp Association and give children the chance to develop social skills and self-reliance in a safe, supportive environment. Activities include archery, performing arts, gymnastics, swimming and kayaking, as well as academic pursuits such as creative writing and web design, for example.
