National Benefit Fund's Employer Portal Simplifies Payroll Reporting
The 1199SEIU National Benefit Fund has launched its enhanced Employer Services Account--- a secure portal that makes it easier for contributing employers to report payroll data and submit contribution payments for their 1199SEIU employees.

Using the portal will enable employers to keep employees' eligibility up to date while allowing them to:

  • Submit payrolls using their current format;
  • Make adjustments within the portal; and
  • Calculate payments based on the payrolls submitted.
To start using the Employer Services Account, employers may click here to select a time for a webinar. For more information, employers may contact the Employer Services Unit at (646) 473-6413 or email EmployerServices@1199Funds.org.

Health Benefit Verification Program for Spouses Gets Underway
The 1199SEIU National Benefit Fund (NBF) is verifying its eligibility records for spouses. Last done five years ago for all dependents, this program protects benefit dollars and helps ensure that 1199SEIU members and their eligible spouses continue to receive quality healthcare coverage. The NBF has again retained HMS, a firm that specializes in healthcare eligibility verification, to conduct the Dependent Eligibility Verification Program. The program will update the eligibility information of spouses of NBF members, including retirees and their spouses receiving supplemental health coverage. The program will also update coordination of benefits information.

The NBF will mail a postcard to affected members, notifying them that they will receive communications from HMS about their spouses' eligibility and requesting that they respond promptly. Members can respond online, by fax and by mail (a postage-paid envelope to submit documentation will be included). Please remind your 1199SEIU employees to respond to the request as soon as possible.

Save the Date for the Annual Basil Paterson Scholarship Fundraiser
On April 19, 2018, the Basil Paterson Scholarship for Home Care Workers Fundraiser will honor Martin F. Scheinman, Esq., and Deborah King. The annual event will celebrate these two industry leaders who have spent years supporting programs that help facilitate the professional development of healthcare workers in order to improve the health and well-being of the communities they serve. Home care workers are increasingly vital to the future of healthcare, providing care to an aging population, and the Basil Paterson Scholarship was established to help these unsung heroes further their education and advance their healthcare career, strengthening the industry as a whole. Named for the former Secretary of State of New York and counsel to 1199SEIU home care and hospital workers, the scholarship provides financial support to help home care workers achieve these goals.

Here are a few examples of what tax-deductible donations can provide:
  • $5,000 buys books and supplies for a worker pursuing a bachelor's degree
  • $10,000 supports a worker seeking an advanced healthcare certification
  • $15,000 covers tuition for a worker pursuing a healthcare associate degree
  • $25,000 covers the costs of a worker studying for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Watch your inbox for more information on how to purchase tickets for the event, or to make a donation. Full details are also posted here
