e 1199SEIU Funds' 2017 Annual Report provides an overview of the work of the Benefit and Pension Funds, the Training and Employment Funds and the Child Care Funds. The report, issued electronically this year, details the Funds' work in providing 1199SEIU workers with comprehensive healthcare coverage, a defined benefit pension, and training and child-care programs. Through careful stewardship of employer contributions and strategic asset management, the family of Funds is able to support more than 400,000 covered lives. To access the report, please click here


Training and Employment Funds Receive Grant to Retrain At-risk Healthcare Workers

On September 25, the 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds received a grant from the New York State Healthcare Worker Retraining Initiative to retrain at-risk and incumbent healthcare workers, to help them keep their jobs, enhance their skills, improve patient care and earn postsecondary credentials to address workforce shortages. The amount of the grant, $6,663,063, represents one-third of the total amount of funding available through the initiative this year.
 
Funding will be available for the following training between January 2019 and December 2020:
  • Licensed practical nurses
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Psychiatric nurse practitioners
  • Quality improvement in patient healthcare services delivery--direct patient care workers
  • Emerging technology--electronic health records, data analytics and reports
  • English as a Second Language--foreign language
  • Nursing assistants with EKG, phlebotomy and 
    patient care technicians
  • Physician assistants
  • Central sterile processing technicians--front-line
    healthcare workers

Care for Kids Gala Celebrates 25 Years of the Future of America Learning Center
The 12th Annual 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation's Care for Kids Gala will be held on Tuesday, December 4, at 6:00 pm at the Edison Ballroom. This year's theme is "Embracing Our Past, Inspiring Our Future," a fitting theme for an evening that will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1199SEIU Future of America Learning Center (FALC) and its impact on future generations of children. 

The Care for Kids Gala honors individuals and organizations whose work demonstrates a commitment to children and families. This year's honorees are Bruce McIver, President of the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York; Ruth C. Browne, SD, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ronald McDonald House New York; David R. Jones, Esq., President and Chief Executive Officer of the Community Service Society; Peta-Gay Clarke, Community and Operations Manager of Google Inc.; and Bonnie Lou Raagas Mallonga, Chief Operating Officer and Education Director of FALC. George Gresham, President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, and Marc Z. Kramer, Consultant to the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York, will serve as honorary chairs. Lee H. Perlman, President of GNYHA Ventures and Executive Vice President, Administration and Chief Financial Officer, GNYHA, will serve as gala chair.

Past honorees include Dawna Michelle Fields, National Program Director of Colgate-Palmolive; Keith Mestrich, President and Chief Executive Officer of Amalgamated Bank; Dr. Rosa M. Gil, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comunilife Inc.; Sheena Wright, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of New York City; Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation; Harry Belafonte, actor, social activist and UNICEF ambassador; Pamela Brier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Maimonides Medical Center; Danny Glover, acclaimed actor and social activist; and Courtney B. Vance, award-winning actor and advocate for youth.

The Institute for Continuing Education Presents Upcoming Programs
The 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund (TUF) strengthens the healthcare delivery system by offering 1199SEIU members training and education programs designed to help improve patient outcomes and provide quality care.
