2019 Protecting Our Health Calendar Promotes Year-round Wellness
The National Benefit Fund is issuing its 2019 Protecting Our Health calendar, a helpful resource that your 1199SEIU employees and members can use all year long to improve their physical and mental health. The calendar is filled with tips on nutrition, fitness and stress management, as well as information on wellness programs, health workshops and other events aimed at helping your 1199SEIU employees and members adopt healthier lifestyles. There is also a schedule for recommended preventive screenings and contact information for important health resources.

The Benefit Fund produces the annual calendar to help promote a culture of health for 1199SEIU workers, both at the worksite and at home. Delegates and members who attended any Benefit Fund wellness events in 2018 will receive their Protecting Our Health calendar in the mail. Members who did not attend a wellness event last year, but would like a copy of the calendar, can request one by contacting the Benefit Fund's Wellness Department at Wellness@1199Funds.org.

Training and Upgrading Fund Helps RNs Become Nurse Practitioners
As the healthcare industry experiences a growing shortage of primary care providers, the demand for nurse practitioners (NPs) is increasing. In response, the 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund (TUF), with a grant from New York State, has partnered with the City University of New York's Lehman College to help registered nurses (RNs) obtain the Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees required to facilitate NP licensure and certification. The current cohort of 20 program participants is scheduled to graduate in December. TUF is also working with contributing employers to secure clinical placements for program participants, and was recently awarded additional state funding to train newly licensed NPs. The training program will begin with a group of psychiatric NPs in January 2019. For more information, please contact Denise Cherenfant at Denise.Cherenfant@1199Funds.org.
