NBF Members Can Now Receive Disability Payments Through Direct Deposit
The National Benefit Fund (NBF) has made it possible for your 1199SEIU employees and members who are on disability leave to have their disability payments direct-deposited into their bank accounts. Receiving payments via direct deposit is not only more secure, but also allows members to access their funds more easily. Members must complete the new Direct Electronic Deposit Authorization for Disability Benefits form (found on www.1199SEIUBenefits.org), and submit it to the Fund either at the same time they submit their completed Notice and Proof of Claim for Disability Benefits form or shortly thereafter. If your 1199SEIU employees and members have questions, they may contact the Fund's Member Services Department at (646) 473-9200.
Training and Employment Funds Launch New College Start Program
The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF), in partnership with Monroe College and the City University of New York (CUNY)'s Lehman College and Queens College, established a College Start program beginning with the fall 2019 semester, to increase the number of healthcare workers in allied occupations. This free, college-level program allows your eligible 1199SEIU employees and members with a high school diploma to earn 6 to 12 college credits in one year, by taking between two and four 3-credit courses, depending on the college they attend. Classes are offered throughout the five boroughs, and participants may also access tutoring, workshops and supportive case management. This fall, 255 1199SEIU members registered for College Start, and registration for the spring 2020 semester has begun.

TEF created College Start as a new entry-to-college pathway after CUNY eliminated its entrance exam beginning in spring 2020. Because adult learners-including your 1199SEIU employees and members-sometimes have to take remedial classes to prepare for the exam, College Start now allows them to save both the time and money needed to graduate.

Please visit the College Start web page for details about the program. For more information about TEF's various programs and services, please visit our website.
WorkForce 2000 Students Learn and Bond at Central Park Retreat
On Saturday, September 28, 59 WorkForce 2000 students from Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New Jersey, and all five New York City boroughs gathered in Central Park for a day-long retreat. Facilitated by NYC Outward Bound Schools, the group demonstrated their critical-thinking skills during games and activities geared toward collaborative strategies and team-building efforts. WorkForce 2000 alumni also stopped by to show their support.

WorkForce 2000 is a year-round academic program designed to help 1199SEIU members' children in grades eight through 11 succeed in high school, prepare for college and explore career interests. The program provides leadership and development opportunities along with academic coursework assistance on a New York City college campus on select Saturdays throughout the year. The current program, which began in July 2020, will run through June 2021.

For more information, visit the WorkForce 2000 web page.
