Help Support the Emotional Health of Your 1199SEIU Employees and Members
The National Benefit Fund (NBF) offers multiple resources to your 1199SEIU employees and members who struggle with mental health issues, whether it is the holiday blues, depression or anxiety. One such resource is Teladoc, a telehealth and video conferencing service. Through Teladoc, they and their eligible family members can connect with a licensed counselor, therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist by phone, web or mobile app from the comfort and convenience of their home by calling (800) 835-2362 or visiting www.Teladoc.com. NBF Outreach Coordinators regularly lead 15-minute presentations on the Teladoc benefit at institutions; please contact your Outreach Coordinator to schedule a presentation. In addition, your employees and members may call the NBF's Wellness Member Assistance Program at (646) 473-6900 to speak confidentially with a licensed social worker or counselor for referrals to behavioral health services.
NBF's 2020 Protecting Our Health Calendar Promotes Year-round Wellness
The NBF has issued its 2020 Protecting Our Health calendar, a valuable resource that your 1199SEIU employees and members can use to support their physical and mental health. Delegates and members who attended an NBF wellness event in 2019 will receive their calendar in the mail. Please advise your employees and members that they may request a calendar by emailing the NBF's Wellness Department at Wellness@1199Funds.org.
Training and Employment Funds to Expand Apprenticeship Programs
The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) are expanding their apprenticeship programs for front-line healthcare workers as part of their ongoing commitment to improve patient care and healthcare delivery. TEF launched its first apprenticeship program, for Community Health Workers (CHWs), in November 2016. Since then, TEF has trained or is in the process of training almost 200 apprentices in seven occupations it has registered with the U.S. Department of Labor: Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), CHW, Home Health Aide, Hospital/Medical Coder, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Patient Care Technician.

To date, TEF has worked with 20 employers in New York, Maryland and Massachusetts on apprenticeship programs. In 2019, TEF partnered with healthcare systems in New York City, including Northwell Health, which trained 11 Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician apprentices; Eger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, which trained 9 CNA apprentices; and BronxCare Health System, which trained 10 CHW apprentices. Next year, TEF plans to add apprenticeships for CNAs in New Jersey and on Staten Island, as well as for LPNs in New York City. Child Care Funds' Anne Shore Camp Fair Is a Great Success
On Saturday, November 9, the 1199SEIU Child Care Funds (CCF) held their fifth annual Anne Shore Camp Fair. More than 300 people, including 135 families---the largest number ever---attended the event. Attendees had an opportunity to meet with representatives from 19 of Anne Shore's 21 participating camp providers and gain a better understanding of the unique experiences each camp offers, including programs in fine arts, athletics and technology. Attendees also received support from CCF staff in making their camp selections for next year and completing the online application. Many of those who attended the event were first-time applicants who said they were impressed by the large number and variety of camp options available.

The Anne Shore Sleep-Away Camp Program allows eligible children between the ages of 9 and 15 to attend two- to four-week summer sleep-away camps located along the East Coast. For more information, please email AnneShoreCampProgram@1199Funds.org, or call (212) 564-2220, extension 3460.
