Help Support the Emotional Health of Your 1199SEIU Employees and Members
The Greater New York Benefit Fund (GNYBF) offers multiple resources to your 1199SEIU employees and members who struggle with mental health issues, whether it is the winter blues, depression or anxiety. One such resource is Teladoc, a telehealth and video conferencing service. Through Teladoc, they and their eligible family members can connect with a licensed counselor, therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist by phone, web or mobile app from the comfort and convenience of their home by calling (800) 835-2362 or visiting www.Teladoc.com. GNYBF Outreach Coordinators regularly lead 15-minute presentations on the Teladoc benefit at facilities; please contact your Outreach Coordinator to schedule a presentation. In addition, your employees and members may call the GNYBF's Wellness Member Assistance Program at (646) 473-6900 to speak confidentially with a licensed social worker or counselor for referrals to behavioral health services.

Training and Employment Funds Workshops Advance Career Development
The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) offer your 1199SEIU employees and members various counseling services and workshops, including one-on-one sessions, to help them understand their education benefits and assist them in making informed career choices. Below are some of the services provided.

  • Career Planning Workshops provide information and an action plan for employees and members who are unsure of what career they would like to pursue or to learn more about emerging professions.

  • Resume and Interview Methods Labs assist employees and members in crafting resumes that best represent their skills and experience, and help them improve their interviewing techniques.
Counselors are available in person at all TEF sites in the New York City metropolitan area, or they can be contacted through the Counseling Hotline at (212) 284-9210. For more information about any of these workshops, your 1199SEIU employees and members can visit https://1199tuf.hwapps.org.
The Child Care Corporation's Care for Kids Gala Is a Success
More than 270 guests turned out for the 13th annual 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation's (CCC) Care for Kids Gala on Monday, December 9, at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. The theme of this year's gala, "The Future Is Not Light Years Away. It's Now!" reflected CCC's commitment to invest in the current and future lives of working families and their children.

Since 2006, the Care for Kids Gala has raised funds to support CCC programs and honored those individuals and organizations whose work demonstrates a commitment to children and families. This year's honorees were Mitra Behroozi, JD, Executive Director of the 1199SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds, who received the Distinguished Administrator of Benefits Award; Dr. Marcella Maxwell, geriatric educator and civic and community leader, who was given the Lifetime Achievement Award; and George Ofori-Amanfo, MD, FACC, System Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital, who received the Distinguished Service to Children Award.

"The Care for Kids Gala is an opportunity to highlight the incredible accomplishments and life-changing work of individuals who are committed to making a positive difference in our society," said Vivian Fox, CCC President and Executive Director of the 1199SEIU Child Care Funds (CCF). "This year's honorees have marked themselves as leaders who serve and inspire, not only locally, but globally."

Jeff Cohen, System Vice President of Labor Relations and Human Resources of the Mount Sinai Health System, chaired the event, while Michelle Miller, co-host of CBS This Morning: Saturday, was the mistress of ceremonies. George Gresham, PhD, President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, and Marc Z. Kramer, President of the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York, served as honorary chairs. The evening's student speaker was Kidane Bowen, Jr., a participant in the Child Care Corporation's WorkForce 2000 program.

For nearly three decades, the CCC and CCF have provided more than 300,000 children of 1199SEIU members and the community at large with access to early-childhood education, summer day and sleep-away camps, internships, mentoring, college scholarships and many other programs. For more information on the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation, visit www.ChildCareCorp.org or call (646) 473-8330.
