Training and Upgrading Fund Offers Online Career Advancement Tool
Each year, the 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund (TUF) helps thousands of your 1199SEIU employees and members access the resources they need to advance in their careers. Since it was first offered last year, the free online tool, Optimal Resume, has helped them develop their resume, practice interviewing skills and draft cover letters. This tool, which can be accessed from any device at any time, is part of TUF's ongoing efforts to prepare members for careers that meet the needs of an evolving healthcare industry. In addition to Optimal Resume, TUF offers members one-on-one counseling sessions to highlight new job opportunities, assists in researching available programs and services, and works with members to create specific plans to help them reach their academic and career goals. Your employees and members may visit the 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) website to create an account and access Optimal Resume's various features. For more information about programs and services offered through TEF, please visit the Funds' website.
Child Care Fund's SAT Prep Program Helps Children Succeed
The 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Fund's SAT Prep Program teaches high school juniors important study skills and test-taking strategies to help them improve their scores on the SAT. Divided into two sessions over 18 weeks in the spring and fall of the school year, the classes help students score above the national average.

Many of the students who participated in the 2019 sessions saw significant improvement in test scores:
  • Among the 182 students who took part in the program, 65 percent improved their practice test scores by 70 points or more, while 17 students improved their scores by more than 210 points.
  • The highest score improvement on practice tests was 560 points.
  • The average real SAT score among program participants was 1127 (an improvement of 94 points compared to their average score of 1033 before they began the program) and 68 points higher than the national average score of 1059.
  • The most-improved student's real SAT score increased by 390 points.
  • The highest real SAT score was 1550.
Students can also enroll in workshops to help them with the college-admissions process, including writing essays, completing applications and applying for financial aid.
