1199SEIU Funds Will Reopen at 498 Seventh Avenue in Stages
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 1199SEIU Funds' planned move to 498 Seventh Avenue has been delayed, and the Funds are now preparing to reopen in the new building in stages. During this time, the Funds will continue to conduct most operations, including paying claims, remotely as Funds staff transitions to working onsite in the new building. The Funds anticipate continuing some operations remotely while social-distancing guidelines regarding occupancy are developed and implemented. More details to follow at a later date.

Funds Will Reopen to Service Members after Labor Day
The Funds sent a postcard to your 1199SEIU employees and members regarding the reopening, and will share plans in the coming weeks about the resumption of office-based work. Funds staff will be onsite to service members after Labor Day, but in the meantime, the Funds will continue to serve your 1199SEIU employees and members through various established remote methods as well, including the improved self-service website. They can also easily access information about their benefits by visiting My Account, or by calling the Funds' Member Services Representatives at (646) 473-9200 or their Outreach Coordinators via contact information available on worksite bulletin boards, or by emailing their questions to [email protected].
Training and Employment Funds Offer COVID-19 Training for Registered Nurses
The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) have developed a "Nursing Management of the Critically Ill COVID-19 Patient" program for registered nurses (RNs) who are or may be caring for patients with COVID-19. The program will provide a review of skills necessary to take care of patients who are ill with the coronavirus, as well as provide RNs with tools to help reduce their stress and anxiety resulting from the pandemic. Topics covered in the program include Management of the Patient with COVID-19; Coping with Situational Depression During the Coronavirus Pandemic; Respiratory Device Management-Modes and Modalities; Therapeutic Communication Strategies; Venipuncture and Central Line Management; and EKG Interpretation. The online, self-paced program includes 14 pre-recorded modules which can be taken individually or as part of the entire series, as well as related Q&A sessions. Participants receive four contact hours per module, similar to continuing education units, which they have 10 days to complete. The modules will be updated as medical understanding of COVID-19 evolves, and more modules may be added in the coming months. Since the program began on April 20, 588 nurses have enrolled. Graduates of Child Care Corporation's WorkForce 2000 Pre-RN Track Recognized
On Saturday, June 13, the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation's (CCC) Pre-RN Track Program recognized its 2020 graduates for their achievements in an online ceremony. Although there was no lab coat ceremony this year, the CCC celebrated its graduates, who will be attending a wide range of institutions of higher education, including the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and wished them all success in their future careers.

The Pre-RN Track is part of the CCC's WorkForce 2000 initiative, a year-round academic program that helps teens of 1199SEIU members succeed in high school, prepare for college and explore career interests. The program seeks to increase the availability and diversity of the New York City nursing workforce by helping prepare high school students to pursue nursing professions.

For more information about the WorkForce 2000 Pre-RN Track, please email [email protected], or call (646) 473-8569.
