Child Care Corporation Conducts Youth Mentoring Program Online
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 1199SEIU Youth Mentoring Program (YMP) was conducted this summer online from July 6 to July 30, with 218 active participants and a 94 percent average attendance rate. This year's program included a summer healthcare project in which participants conducted interviews with front-line workers and others to assess COVID-19 responses and outcomes in New York City. In addition, the YMP featured a professional development seminar that focused on resume and cover-letter writing skills and financial-literacy activities such as creating budgets. The YMP's closing ceremony showcased four of its 15 COVID-19 group projects, presented in slides and videos.

Each summer, the YMP gives 1199SEIU members' children, ages 15 to 17, an inside look at potential careers in the healthcare industry and provides hands-on experience at participating institutions. In addition to work experience, the YMP offers participants professional development seminars, college admissions prep courses and career counseling services. For more information about the YMP or other programs offered by the Child Care Corporation or Child Care Fund, please visit www.1199SEIUFunds.org/childcare.
