Descriptive Summary:
This presentation examines current trends and risk factors contributing to mental and behavioral health crises. Participants will identify common crisis scenarios encountered in social work and behavioral health settings. They will review evidence-based interventions and community resources to support effective crisis response, safety planning and stabilization.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Identify current trends and risk factors related to mental and behavioral health crises;
- Recognize common crisis situations encountered in professional practice;
- Apply evidence-based interventions in crisis response; and
- Utilize appropriate community resources to support individuals in crisis.
7:30 pm — Technology and Digital Health in Mental Health Care
Presenter:
Dr. Marina A. Badillo, LCSW
Descriptive Summary:
This presentation will examine the role of technology and digital health in contemporary mental health care, with a focus on how tools such as telehealth platforms, digital mental health interventions and emerging AI-supported systems are shaping service delivery, clinical decision-making and professional responsibility. Participants will learn how technology influences therapeutic relationships, confidentiality, informed consent and professional judgment, while also critically assessing the risks of over-automation and unexamined tool use. They will be able to evaluate digital tools for clinical and ethical appropriateness, as well as assess access and equity issues related to technology-based behavioral health services, particularly for marginalized and underserved communities.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Explain how digital health technologies, including telehealth and AI-supported tools, are reshaping contemporary mental health care delivery and professional roles;
- Critically evaluate digital mental health tools and interventions for clinical appropriateness, ethical risk and alignment with social work values; and
- Identify and apply ethical principles related to privacy, confidentiality, informed consent and accountability in technology-mediated mental health services.

Social Workers
The 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers under provider #0286. Licensed New York State (NYS) Social Workers are required to provide a NYS license number to receive a certificate of credit. This course is approved for three (3) continuing education hours.

Members must have been a part-time or full-time employee for at least one year, work at least three-fifths of a regular workweek, and work for an employer who contributes to the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund or the 1199SEIU Greater New York Education Fund.
City of New York Education, Child and Eldercare Fund Members
Pharmacists, Dietitians, Clinical Laboratory Practitioners and LPNs must have worked with NYC Health + Hospitals or a mayoral agency for at least one year.
