Dear Members,

Making it easy for you to access your Benefit Fund coverage is always our top priority, and with the start of flu season, we encourage you to take advantage of one of the many options you have to get vaccinated. You can get the flu shot at your workplace, at a Benefit Fund health fair or through your primary care provider—covered by your Fund.

Of course, you rely on your comprehensive benefits to keep you healthy, just as our featured 1199SEIU member, Marcella Smart, has. A Certified Nursing Assistant at Methodist Home for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Marcella shares her story of how she regularly attends the Benefit Funds’ quarterly wellness workshops, where she learns valuable nutrition information and stress-management techniques.

The importance of good nutrition has never been more timely. In his column, our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Van H. Dunn, details the ways in which nutrition affects your health—and how your Benefit Fund supports you. In fact, you will read more about “the nutrition prescription”. We also remind you to attend our next workshop on October 19, which will separate nutrition facts from fiction.

Physical and mental health are also impacted by our financial wellness, so we are happy to again offer our free Online Financial Health series this fall. Even if you completed the course, you may sign up for a refresher.

If you are looking to upgrade your skills in the healthcare industry, our Training and Upgrading Fund announces the release of its latest catalog listing training and academic opportunities available to you. And for those of you with teenagers, this issue includes information about youth programs offered by the Child Care Corporation and how to register for 2020 Child Care Funds benefits.

As always, we hope you enjoy this issue of For Your Benefit. If you have any questions about your benefits, please call (646) 473-9200 and a Member Services Representative will be happy to help you.
