National Benefit Fund Partners with EmblemHealth Preferred Dental to
Expand Benefit

Effective April 1, EmblemHealth Preferred Dental will administer the dental plan for the 1199SEIU National Benefit Fund (NBF). The new NBF dental plan offers members an expanded network through the new partnership, giving them access to more than 8,000 providers, including 1,000 in New Jersey, with no out-of-pocket costs for preventive services. Many dental providers in the NBF network already participate in the EmblemHealth Preferred Dental network, and the Benefit Fund has contacted those who don't, to encourage them to join. NBF members recently received new Dental Benefit ID cards from EmblemHealth, as well as details about the transition. In addition, for those members whose yearly dental benefit was $1,200, the maximum benefit has increased to $3,000 annually.

Mitra Behroozi Named to Board of Northeast Business Group on Health
Mitra Behroozi, executive director of the 1199SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds, was recently named to the board of directors of the Northeast Business Group on Health (NEBGH), a coalition of large employers --- many of whom are self-insured --- that offers its members guidance and strategies on health plan management and delivery. Behroozi will be a guest speaker at the group's April 6 conference, "High Performing Employers Need High Performing Healthcare," where she will discuss the Fund's Accountable Care Organization partnerships with our hospital employers, to help employers explore opportunities to better offer quality, affordable healthcare to their employees. The conference will be held at Convene Conference Centers, 730 Third Avenue, New York. For more information and to register by April 3, please click here.

Training and Employment Funds Prepare Nurses for Changing Healthcare Industry
The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) provide financial and other assistance to help members keep pace with changes in the healthcare industry. Through the efforts of TEF and its affiliated funds, the number of 1199SEIU workers pursuing Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and other advanced degree programs totaled 167 in 2016, and has already reached 116 in the first quarter of 2017. As of January 2017, 27 students were enrolled in an MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner program at Lehman College (a City University of New York college). The two-year program, which is supported by a grant from the New York State Health Care Reform Act and implemented by the 1199SEIU Registered Nurse Training and Job Security Fund, graduated its first cohort of 21 registered nurses in 2016. The Training and Upgrading Fund continues to offer case management, tutoring and career counseling to those seeking enrollment in Fund-sponsored, advanced-degree nursing programs. Science Fair Helps Educate Pre-K Children About Health and Nutrition
The 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation's Future of America Learning Center (FALC) held its annual science fair on March 11. Science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) play an important role in FALC's "Pre-K for All" curriculum, making the annual fair a highlight of the academic year. At this year's fair, students participated in activities related to health and nutrition, including learning about the body's respiratory system and exploring ways to protect the heart. Family, friends and community members had the opportunity to view the children's projects and discuss how healthy habits impact their daily lives. For more information on FALC, the 1199SEIU Child Care Fund or the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation, please call (212) 564-2220 or visit www.1199SEIUFunds.org/childcare.
