Telehealth Benefit Offers Anytime,
Anywhere Care
For those times when your 1199SEIU employees and members feel sick and their doctor is unavailable, they can access care through their Greater New York Benefit Fund's (GNYBF) telehealth benefit, Teladoc. Any time of the day or night, they can connect with a licensed physician by phone or video from the comfort of home, rather than visit a more costly and time-consuming emergency room or urgent care center. On May 1, the GNYBF expanded the Teladoc benefit to include mental and behavioral health services. Please encourage your 1199SEIU employees and members to take advantage of this valuable benefit by visiting www.Teladoc.com or calling (800) 835-2362. For more information, visit www.1199SEIUFunds.org/teladoc.
Training and Employment Funds Play Pivotal Role in Retraining Long-term Care Workers
The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF), in partnership with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the City University of New York, the Continuing Care Leadership Coalition and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, have been named one of New York State's Workforce Investment Organizations (WIOs) to participate in the state's three-year, $245 million Workforce Investment Program for long-term care facilities. The program goal of the WIO named "Ladders to Value" is to design and implement training that supports care coordination, value-based payment models and other delivery-system reforms.

The Ladders to Value WIO is charged with creating workforce development initiatives to retrain, recruit and retain long-term care workers. TEF secured contracts with each of the 10 managed long-term care plans participating in the program. As a result, the Ladders to Value WIO received the largest amount of funding---$21.5 million---for the first year, to design and implement training statewide. The four workforce training initiatives that are being crafted by Ladders to Value will focus on preparing workers to meet value-based quality measurements, creating new career pathways for long-term care workers, integrating behavioral health into long-term care and enhancing workplace safety.

If you are interested in having your 1199SEIU employees and members take part in this training, please email LTV@1199Funds.org or contact Frances Sadler at (212) 284-9296 or Florence Wong at (212) 494-0598. Training sessions can be conducted either onsite or at centrally located facilities, and backfill is available for training participants.
Pre-RN Program Graduates Participate in
Lab Coat Ceremony
On Thursday, May 31, the 2018 graduates of the 1199SEIU/Greater New York Child Care Fund's (CCF) Pre-RN program were honored for their achievements at the annual Lab Coat Ceremony. The Pre-RN program is part of CCF's WorkForce 2000 initiative, a year-round academic program designed to help children of 1199SEIU members succeed in high school, prepare for college and explore career interests. The Pre-RN program of WorkForce 2000 aims to increase both the availability and diversity of the New York City nursing workforce by helping prepare high school students to pursue nursing professions.
At this year's ceremony, Eizan Wallace, a 2010 graduate of the Pre-RN program, described the resiliency of nurses in delivering comprehensive patient care and navigating professional challenges. Norma Amsterdam, Executive Vice President of the 1199SEIU Registered Nurses Division, reminded the graduates to serve with compassion, communicate clearly and always advocate for their patients. For more information about the WorkForce 2000 Pre-RN program, please email WF2000@1199Funds.org, or call
