More Employers Opt for Advantages of 1199SEIU Funds Employer Services Portal
Since the enhanced 1199SEIU Employer Services Portal went live in February 2018, the percentage of contributing employers taking advantage of the service has reached nearly 70 percent. Currently, 187 employers (who employ almost 94,000 1199SEIU workers) are using the system, which has made it easier for them to report payroll data and submit contribution payments on behalf of their 1199SEIU employees. The portal also enables employers to keep their employees' eligibility information up to date, and provides them with a streamlined, electronic means to perform such essential functions as:
  • Submitting payroll data;
  • Calculating payments based on that data;
  • Recording employee status changes, including paid and unpaid leaves; and
  • Making electronic contributions monthly.
To learn more about the portal or to sign up for a training session, please call the 1199SEIU Funds Employer Services Unit at (646) 473-6413 or email EmployerServices@1199Funds.org.
Training and Upgrading Fund Launches Online Learning Workshops
The 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund recently launched two workshops on the use of online learning platforms. Each is designed to assist your 1199SEIU employees and members for whom online learning provides the flexibility and convenience they need to balance work and family commitments with educational and career goals. "Introduction to Online Learning," a three-hour, classroom-based workshop targeting pre-college-level students, covers such topics as Internet use, website navigation, and the structure and terminology of web-based learning systems. "Tools for Online Learning Success" is a two-day, seven-hour hybrid classroom and online program that familiarizes college-level students with the skills and techniques they need to master the online
course format.

Participants in two pilot sessions in October 2018 and two workshops in December credited the courses with giving them the tools they need to explore various web-based learning programs and complete online coursework. "Introduction to Online Learning" will be offered in April, July and October 2019, while future dates for "Tools for Online Learning Success" will be determined soon.

Annual FALC Fair Highlights the Journey to Healthy Living and a Clean Environment
The 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation's Future of America Learning Center (FALC) held its 22nd annual Science Fair on Saturday, March 23. This year's fair focused on issues facing the Bronx, including the impact of waste on communities in the borough; the history and recovery of the Hudson River; and ways to creatively reduce, reuse and recycle waste products. Students also engaged in health-related activities, such as running an obstacle course and doing yoga moves to demonstrate how exercise can help combat obesity, learning about the food groups and making nutritious snacks. Parents and community members who attended had an opportunity to ask the children about their projects, including one on the efficiency of solar-powered vehicles.

The FALC Science Fair is an opportunity for students to take part in science, technology, engineering, art and math projects while expressing their creativity among peers, teachers and family members. For more information on FALC, the 1199SEIU Child Care Fund or the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation, please call (212) 564-2220 or visit www.1199SEIUFunds.org/childcare.
