Nurse of Distinction Awards Honor Excellence in Nursing
On April 26, 2019, more than 700 guests gathered at the Grand Hyatt New York for the 16th Annual 1199SEIU League Nurse of Distinction Awards. The nurses, who represent hospitals and nursing homes in New York City, Long Island and Upstate New York, were recognized for their professionalism and dedication by leaders from 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York, the 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds and members of the Nurse of Distinction planning committee. Nadine Williamson, Vice President in the 1199SEIU RN Division, and Daniel F. Murphy, Jr., Managing Partner of Putney, Twombly, Hall & Hirson LLP and a labor and employment attorney, served as the emcees for the event. After the 71 nominees completed a rigorous interview process, nine nurses were selected to be presented with awards in five different categories. Child Care Fund's Cultural Arts Program Provides Weekend Classes
The 1199SEIU Child Care Fund's (CCF) Cultural Arts Program (CAP) offers weekend classes during the school year, with a CCF-contracted provider, to your eligible employees' and members' children ages 5 to 17. The CAP helps cultivate creative thinking, build confidence and develop leadership skills by offering children the opportunity to experience cultural and academic enrichment programming at New York City and metro-area institutions. Children participate in activities such as dance, music, theater, fitness, and arts and crafts, and can take part in technology lessons, tutoring sessions and SAT preparation classes. During the 2018-2019 school year, the CAP has served 67 children and teenagers at classes at the Harlem School of the Arts, Hofstra University and Mosholu Montefiore Community Center. Registration for the next round of CAP classes will be in the fall of 2019. For more information, email ChildCare@1199Funds.org or call (212) 564-2220.
