1199ers: Where are they now?
Melissa Spells, Care Management Coordinator, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since Melissa shared the story of her battle against breast cancer. She was happy to hear that Diana Suárez gained strength from her experience and wishes her good health. Melissa also has exciting news: She was asked to speak at an American Cancer Society event at work where she hopes to continue to share her message about the importance of prevention, spiritual strength and having a “village” of support. She also recently moved to a new home. Now she has space to exercise on her new walking pad when she can’t make it to the gym and a kitchen with room for her trusty juicer to make her favorite healthy smoothies. And she’s getting ready to proudly participate again in this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. Way to go, Melissa!
