President Mary Stovall-Merrill’s Message

Dear Sisters and Brothers,
With just a few months left in the year, now is a great time to look back on how it’s going so far. Have you reached your health goals or milestones? Have you incorporated new habits or tried out a new skill or activity? What’s worked and what hasn’t? Even if the changes aren’t appearing in flashing lights, you’ve likely had more than a few small victories. And the good news is there’s still time! We are constantly evolving, learning and growing. As the seasons change, take some time to reflect on all that has happened this year and plan for a winter reset.
Staying active and engaged is key to our overall health, and having roots and building connections in your community is so important as we enter the holiday season and winter months that can sometimes feel isolating. Getting involved can be as simple as calling a friend to catch up, cooking dinner with family or going for a walk around the block with a neighbor. Looking to branch out? You have access to in-person monthly meetings and a wide variety of classes for many interests and all skill levels. Is there something you’ve always wanted to try or a skill you’d like to learn? Trying something different and engaging in new ways does wonders for our mental and physical health—whether it’s Sharqui Belly Dance, lending your voice to the Inspirational Choir or trying your hand at Photography, there’s really something for everyone.
Are you up to date on all of your exams and immunizations? I may sound like a broken record, but the best way to prevent illness or stay on the path to healthy living is with preventive care. Be sure to make and keep those appointments—you’ll stay ahead of any potential issues or simply get some peace of mind as we head into 2027. It’s normal to feel a little anxiety about getting checked out, but knowing where you stand is the best way to find out if there’s something you need to address.
I’m so proud of and inspired by our 1199 retiree community and all that you continue to accomplish. I hope that you remain encouraged and committed to your health and wellness in the coming year. As always, if you have questions or concerns, the Funds are just a call away. Reach out to the Retired Members Department at (646) 473-8666.
In solidarity,
Mary Stovall-Merrill
Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Mary Stovall-Merrill
