Eligibility

You and your spouse are eligible for retiree health benefits through the 1199SEIU National Benefit Fund when you retire under one of the following pension benefit options:

Full (“Normal”) Pension Benefit

If you retire at age 65 with at least 10 years of credited service and/or vesting service and were an active member covered by the 1199SEIU Benefit Fund immediately before you retired, you are eligible for coverage that includes hospital, medical, emergency, outpatient surgery, prescription drugs, routine foot care, chiropractic care, vision and hearing.

Reduced Early Pension Benefit

If you retire at age 55 with at least 10 years of credited service and/or vesting service with a contributing employer, you are eligible for:

The Early Retiree Dental Plus Plan, which includes a dental benefit of up to $3,000 per year, a hospital indemnity plan, which pays $200 per day, up to 10 days per hospital stay, and a vision benefit;

OR

The Early Retiree Prescription Plan, which includes prescription drug coverage, and vision and hearing benefits.

If you retire between ages 60 and 64, you will receive the same retiree health benefits that members retiring with a Normal Pension Benefit receive when you reach age 65 and are Medicare-eligible.

Unreduced Early Pension Benefit

If you retire at age 62.5* with at least 25 years of credited service and/or vesting service with a contributing employer, you are eligible for coverage that includes hospital, medical, emergency, outpatient surgery, prescription drugs, routine foot care, chiropractic care, vision and hearing.

Disability Pension Benefit

If you retire at any age on a Disability Pension, with at least 10 years of credited service and/or vesting service with a contributing employer, you are eligible for coverage that includes hospital, medical, emergency, outpatient surgery, prescription drugs, routine foot care, chiropractic care, vision and hearing.

NOTE: If you leave covered employment and do not begin to receive your pension within one year, you will not be eligible for supplemental retiree health benefits through the 1199SEIU National Benefit Fund. If you are considering delaying the commencement of your pension, please call the Pension Fund or discuss this with a Pension Counselor.

*If you were born before July 1, 1959, you can qualify for health benefits and collect a full pension at 62 with 20 years of credited service and/or vesting service.
