  • Child Care Referrals

    Mother and Children RegistrationNeed help finding a licensed day care center, child care provider or after-school care?

    Call the Child Care Resource and Referral Services (CCR&R). Counselors will provide eligible members with referrals to participating providers.

    The CCR&R also provides services to working parents, including a series of seminars offered throughout the year to help parents balance work and family responsibilities. All CCR&R programs are free for Child Care Fund members and child care is provided at some events.

  • About the Child Care Funds

    At a time when families continue to struggle with the economic challenges of raising and educating their children, 1199SEIU members can rely on the Child Care Funds to offer access to high quality, affordable programs and services for their children from birth to age 17 through child care benefits, information and referrals. Child Care Funds benefits encompass a wide array of programs and services, including day care, after school and summer day camp vouchers, Saturday cultural arts programs, holiday programs during school recesses, year-round teen academic programs and summer work internships (WorkForce 2000), SAT preparation, and quality pre-school education at our Future of America Learning Center.

    Child Care Corporation

    The 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation (CCC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1998 and dedicated to improving the quality of life of working families and communities. To help these families, the Corporation encourages the healthy development of children and youth by providing a high-quality educational environment in which they thrive during all stages of their development.

    In addition to child care benefits, the Child Care Funds provides a host of resources to eligible 1199SEIU families including, emergency child care relief, referrals to free or low-cost child care options, and a series of seminars offered throughout the year to help parents balance work and family responsibilities.

  • Special Needs After-School Reimbursement

    For Ages 6 – 17

    This reimbursement is available to members with children between ages 6 and 17 who have special needs. Children with special needs may have autism, Down syndrome, spina bifida or other disabilities requiring a level of care not typically provided by regular after-school programs. Members may use this reimbursement to pay for after-school care from providers with expertise in special needs care.

    • Doctor’s Note indicating special needs and limitations. Please have providers complete this form. It should be dated within one year of the submission deadline and must be stamped by the doctor’s office for authenticity.
    • Any member using an unlicensed child care provider must submit the Special Needs Provider Verification form in addition to the Doctor’s Note.

    Special Needs Eligibility Criteria for Non-sleep-away Programs

    Disability Category Description
    Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) This category includes individuals with developmental disabilities that affect social interaction, communication, and behavior.
    Deafness | Deaf-blindness This category includes individuals with significant hearing impairments, whether profound or partial, and concomitant visual impairments. This combination of impairments leads to severe communication, developmental and educational needs that cannot be met in special education programs designed for children with only deafness or blindness.
    Emotional disturbance This category includes individuals who exhibit significant difficulties in social and emotional development, leading to their inability to learn effectively.
    Intellectual disability Individuals with significantly below-average intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior limitations fall under this category.
    Multiple disabilities Individuals with multiple disabilities that impair their educational performance and require special education and related services fall under this category.
    Orthopedic impairment This category includes individuals with impairments related to bones, muscles, or other body systems that affect their educational performance.
    Other health impairment This category encompasses individuals with health conditions (e.g., asthma, severe ADHD) that result in limited strength, vitality, or alertness, affecting their educational performance.
    Specific learning disability Individuals with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia or dyscalculia, that significantly impact their educational performance fall under this category.
    Speech or language impairment This category includes individuals with communication disorders that affect their ability to understand or use language, as well as individuals who have articulation disorder.
    Traumatic brain injury (TBI) Individuals with acquired brain injuries caused by an external force resulting in impairments in cognition, language, memory, or other areas fall under this category.
    Visual impairment Individuals with significant vision impairments, even with correction, fall under this category.

    Sleep-Away Camp Program Options

    The Anne Shore Sleep-Away Camp Program contracts with Ramapo for Children, a specialized residential camp for children with developmental and/or behavioral special needs. Ramapo for Children is independently owned and operated and is accredited by the American Camp Association. The camp’s traditional programming fosters the development of positive social/learning skills, builds healthy relationships and increases self-esteem. Ramapo for Children has a one-to-one staff-to-child ratio with counselors who are emerging professionals in the fields of special education, social work and psychology.

    Anne Shore’s Independent Camp Program allows members to choose their own special needs sleep-away camp provider, one that meets their child’s specific needs and offers a reimbursement of up to $2,500 per approved child.

  • Youth Mentoring Program

    For High School age Children

    The Youth Mentoring Program (YMP) is an innovative project of the 1199SEIU League Labor Management Initiatives, Inc., administered by the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation. The program provides a six-week summer employment opportunity for high school-age children of 1199SEIU members at participating hospitals and nursing homes. The YMP supports youth in developing fundamental life skills, professional competencies and career/education opportunities, all while establishing a future workforce of young professionals.

    Who Is Eligible?

    Wage Class I for one year of covered employment.
    Eligible high school-age children.
    Eligible members may apply for the YMP through MyAccount.

    WorkForce 2000

    For Teens 14 – 17

    WorkForce 2000WorkForce (WF2) is a year-round academic program designed to help 1199SEIU youth succeed in high school, prepare for college and explore career interests. In a peer setting, coursework assistance is offered during the summer and on select Saturdays throughout the school year.

    Program options include hybrid at New York University – Manhattan Campus OR Virtual Test Prep (Study Smart)

    Once the member receives the benefit, all students participate in the program for two phases:

    Phase I: Summer Programming

    Academic programming and career exploration

    July through August; Monday to Friday

    Phase II: Saturday Academic Programming (School Year)

    Supplemental academic enrichment and college planning

    September through June; two Saturdays per month

    In addition, the WF2 program offers a dynamic opportunity for youth leadership and development, fostering self-awareness, social awareness and independence.

    Joseph Tauber Scholarship Program

    For Students Entering College and Current College Students Younger than Age 23

    The Joseph Tauber Scholarship Program (JTSP) awards scholarships to eligible 1199SEIU members’ children who are attending accredited undergraduate colleges.

    2026–2027 Academic Year

    If you are or will be enrolled in college during either the fall 2026 term or the spring 2027 term:

    The application request period for the 2026–2027 academic year will end January 31, 2026.
    (Please note: The application request period for the 2025-2026 academic year is closed.)

    2026–2027 Eligibility Requirements

    Both the member and the student must meet and maintain all eligibility requirements prior to the distribution of fall and/or spring semester awards. Award amounts vary according to need, with a minimum award of $750 for the school year.

    Next Generation Registered Nursing Scholarship Program

    For members employed by an institution or facility that contributes to the 1199SEIU National Benefit Fund (NBF) or the 1199SEIU Greater New York (GNY) Child Care Fund.

    Important Award Information

    Automatic award renewals are not granted. Scholarship recipients must reapply each year for consideration.

    Tax Statement

    According to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rules and regulations, the Funds consider the Joseph Tauber Scholarship benefit to be “taxable wages.” If a member’s child receives a scholarship, the value of the scholarship must be included on the member’s tax return when filing taxes the following year.

    To accommodate children with documented special needs, the Child Care Funds contract with summer day camp providers that provide special needs programs in New York City and the metro area.

    CCR&R also has counselors readily available to assist you with your search for Special Needs Summer Day Camp providers.
