Continuing Education (CE)

Eligible 1199SEIU members may receive CE benefits to attend workshops, clinics, conferences, seminars and similar programs that are related to your current position or designed to meet employment-related requirements (including, but not limited to, certification, re-certification and licensure), or to enhance your skills in your current position or for possible advancement.

Eligible 1199SEIU members may receive CE benefits up to a maximum of $750 per calendar year (up to a maximum of $450 per calendar year for part-time employees),* which includes Fund-sponsored seminars and CE Direct, both at no out-of-pocket costs, and CE Reimbursement, which is offered by external CE providers. (Reimbursement for travel, lodging, materials, membership fees, exam fees and wage replacement are not covered benefits.)

Fund-sponsored, nationally accredited interprofessional symposiums and discipline-specific seminars are offered through the Training and Employment Funds’ Institute for Continuing Education. These programs help you meet your CE requirements while also helping you improve your skill set to stay at the forefront of a rapidly changing industry. The programs are offered onsite in New York City, with many available via live videocast and live webcast on the Internet. The cost is deducted from your CE benefit, so you will have no out-of-pocket expenses.

CE Direct is a provider of continuing education for healthcare professionals, designed to help you advance your knowledge, fulfill CE requirements, prepare for certification exams and enhance patient care. CE Direct gives you instant access to more than 2,000 hours of continuing education courses designed for professional and technical workers. In addition, CE Direct’s examination review library includes over 700 courses to help healthcare workers prepare for certification exams. The cost is deducted from your CE benefit, so you will have no out-of-pocket expenses.

In order to receive reimbursement once you have completed an external CE program, you must complete a General Enrollment Form and submit it, along with all required proofs, to the Fund via e-mail to [email protected]. Required proofs include:

  • Proof of cost and payment to the training institution (e.g., invoice, receipt); and
  • Proof of attendance/successful completion for the continuing
    education activity.

The completed form and all required supporting documents must be submitted to the Fund within ninety (90) days of completion of the CE program or you will not receive reimbursement.
