Tuition reimbursement-only may be available for colleges not mentioned here. All tuition assistance is limited to allied health professions, healthcare occupations or job-related programs of study. Undergraduate or advanced-degree programs must be provided by colleges registered with the Department of Education of the state where the school is located, by colleges accredited by New York State or by approved higher-education accrediting agencies.

TA Approval/Program Requirements

If you are a first-time applicant for an undergraduate degree, graduate degree and credit-bearing tuition reimbursement or voucher, you must meet with the 1199SEIU City Fund Counselor for approval in order to:

  • Learn whether the course of study you are interested in qualifies for tuition reimbursement or a tuition voucher;
  • Understand the rules related to the reimbursement and voucher process, including academic and completion requirements; and
  • Obtain additional career and academic support.

Health Careers College Core Curriculum (HC4)

The Health Careers College Core Curriculum (HC4) Program is an entry-to-college program for adult learners who want to obtain an associate and/or bachelor’s degree in various allied health fields. The HC4 Program works with a variety of college partners and provides opportunities for 1199SEIU members to take the “core” prerequisite courses they need in a highly supportive environment. HC4 students take credited courses and typically earn between 20 and 36 credits before transitioning to the major of their choice.

The City Fund pays tuition directly to colleges, so there is no out-of-pocket expense for tuition and fees. If you participate in a course and do not successfully complete it with a grade of “C” or better, you will be required to reimburse the Fund for the cost of that course.
