On Monday, June 3, family, former instructors and 1199SEIU Child Care Funds Trustees joined the WorkForce 2000 (WF2) Pre-RN Program in celebrating these eight graduating seniors at the annual Lab Coat Ceremony:

  • Marielle Cardenas – SUNY Farmingdale
  • Cassandra Felix – CUNY Brooklyn
  • Chloe Gonnella – Wagner College (not pictured)
  • Deapatre Hutchinson – York College (not pictured)
  • Ava Occhipinti – Adelphi University
  • Katelyn Reid – Queensborough Community College
  • Julianna Rodriguez – Lehman College

The Lab Coat Ceremony is the culminating event of the yearlong WF2 Pre-RN Program. During the program, students work on a Capstone Project that highlights an issue relating to the healthcare industry. This year, students focused on the growing impact of climate change on the global community. Dennise Pena, a 2015 Pre-RN Program alumna, spoke about the impact the WF2 Program had on her life and career. “I am proud to say that my experience with the WorkForce 2000 Program has come full circle, and I now work with the students in the Pre-RN Program,” Dennise said. “I got through college because of the foundation and support that everyone at 1199SEIU and New York University provided me.”

Other guest speakers included Marc Kramer, President of the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes of New York, and Norma Amsterdam, Executive Vice President of the 1199SEIU RN Division. Learn more about the WorkForce2000 Pre-RN program.
